In 1995, Michael Hartman, President & CEO of Reach Communications, saw the importance of switching to VoIP when when a software product was developed. After Hartman the creation of the first soft switch in 1997 Hartman believed that soft switches were going to replace traditional hardware telephone switches by serving as gateways between telephone networks in the near future. Hartman then left an esteemed telecommunication company in 1998 to focus on becoming one of the first telecommunication companies to provide VoIP services to other businesses and other wholesale carriers, while still maintaining a traditional switched network to ensure that the new technology would not hinder Reach Communications’ growth with existing traditional telecommunication companies. The decision to and utilize a hybrid network increased connectivity to providers as well as to business and wholesale customers.
